Project Details
The proposed power plant is a joint venture of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and NTPC Ltd., India. BPDB and NTPC Ltd., India has signed the Joint Venture Agreement at Dhaka on 29 January, 2012 and namedthe company “Bangladesh -India Friendship Power Company (Pvt.) Limited”.
The proposed project is to be constructed in Rampal that covers Sapmari Katakhali and Kaigardaskati Mauza of Rajnagar and Gaurambha Union under Rampal Upazila in the district of Bagerhat. The project is located at 22o37’0’’N to 22o34’30’’N and 89o32’0’’E to 89o34’5’’E and around 23 km south from the Khulna City, 11.5 km Northeast from Rampal Sadar Upazila, 14 km North-east from Mongla port and 14 km north-west from the nearest point of Sundarbans. The location is 4 km away from the declared Ecological Critical Area (ECA) of Sundarbans i.e. 10 Km radius buffer of the Sundarbans boundary. The project has land acquisition, physical displacement of livelihood resource base. Land acquisition and resettlement involved with the project.
